BSL level 2 is an intermediate level of skill in BSL. This is designed for learners who already have completed the BSL Level 1 course, or already have prior knowledge of BSL. Level 2 builds on the basic vocabulary and grammar which was introduced in Level 1 and allows learners to become familiar with more complex signs and grammatical structures.
In BSL Level 2, you will learn:

Vocabulary Expansion – learn more signs to communicate about various topics, including everyday activities, hobbies and emotions.

Sentence Structure – explore complex sentence structures and grammatical rules to allow you to express more detailed sentences.

Conversational Skills – improve your ability to hold conversations in BSL, including asking and answering questions, expressing opinions and discussing various topics.

Duration – it can take several weeks to a few months to complete, depending on the course and the individual’s learning pace.

Non-Manual Features – for example, facial expressions and body language. These are important in BSL. You will learn how to use these to convey meaning.

Deaf Culture – understanding Deaf culture and protocol is an important part of the Level 2 course. Including Deaf history, Deaf community and the social parts of Deaf culture.

Receptive Skills – working on your ability to understand and interpret signs and sentences when others are signing to you.

Level 2 involves a combination of classroom learning, practical sessions and assessments to measure your progress. Remember, BSL is a visual language so it’s important to practice and interact with Deaf people, or people who are fluent signers in order to improve future signing.
