Facts to Know

Deaf people in the UK

It is estimated that 1 in 5 adults in the UK are deaf, have hearing loss, or tinnitus. This equates to approximately 12 million adults. This figure includes a wide range of hearing impairments, not just those who are profoundly deaf. About 900,000 people in the UK are severely or profoundly deaf. Please note that these numbers might have changed as my knowledge is current only up to 2021.

Deaf Awareness Tips

Just speak in your normal tone and remember to be patient.

Otherwise, it can be harder for Deaf people to lipread you. Remember, not everyone can lipread.

This will make it easier for a Deaf person to lipread you.

From mild to profound. Not everyone has the same level of deafness.
