It is estimated that 1 in 5 adults in the UK are deaf, have hearing loss, or tinnitus. This equates to approximately 12 million adults. This figure includes a wide range of hearing impairments, not just those who are profoundly deaf. About 900,000 people in the UK are severely or profoundly deaf. Currently, these numbers are 12 million in the UK in 2023.

Farah is an excellent teacher. With no background in sign language at the end of 8 weeks I could easily have a short conversation. The lessons were brief and at a pace easy for beginners. Farah made sure we practised and was very easily approachable for any doubts we had. She gave very constructive feedback on recording we did. Her recorded videos helped on the learning journey. I thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to my lessons with her. I surely would recommend her to anyone who really has the zeal and passion to learn.
Farah came to our girlguiding group to run a session on deaf awareness and BSL. She (and her interpreter) were amazing. So friendly, informative, and imaginative with the tasks she got the girls to try. They learnt their Guide promise in BSL, fingerspelling the alphabet, had a go at lip reading, and got to experience how hard it is to listen to the lyrics of music if you cannot hear well. The girls were so engaged and asking questions at the end that we ran over, and there were still so much more we wanted to ask. I would highly recommend Farah, and we would love to have her back for another session.
I have been working with Farah for a number of years and what shines through is her passion for promoting equal access for the Deaf community. Her drive and hard work is what’s enabled her business to become a success and I know she will make a huge impact.
I have worked as a BSL interpreter with Farah for a number of years. Farah has excellent communication skills and a real passion for her first language, BSL. She is hard working and has excellent interpersonal skills whilst working with hearing and Deaf people. She has a great personality, amazing sense of humour and is very generous. Her English skills are also superb. I look forward to continuing to support Farah throughout the rest of my working career.
Farah Punjwani is an extraordinary teacher, inspiring and enthusiastic, with an infectious energy that captures the attention of students and collaborators. I attended beginners’ British Sign Language (BSL) classes run by Farah in a virtual learning environment in the evenings. Farah was able to keep the classes dynamic and well-paced while catering to a variety of ages and abilities participating online. I was also impressed as Farah kept me engaged after a day at work! Her classes were well-structured and inclusive, with a carefully planned curriculum delivered over successive weeks.
I’ve been learning BSL weekly with Farah (Sign2Go Ltd) since mid-August 2023, starting as a novice. After an initial assessment of what I may already know – which was next to nothing - Farah has shown great patience and methodology in helping me to learn new topics each week, and to ensure that they’re sinking in with recaps and questions during the sessions, along with homework for the following week and useful tips to help me practice. Farah adapts the pace to me throughout the sessions, and gives helpful tips and suggestions along the way. During the first 3 sessions we’ve covered the alphabet, greetings/introductions, sign names, some questions, days of the week, months, numbers (1 to 1 Million) – combined with age and currency, time, emotions and more. She has not only been teaching me the means to communicate but also explains the nuances within BSL and advocates for the deaf community by providing helpful insight from her own experiences. I’m really enjoying my sessions and would highly recommend Farah.
Farah created some training videos for our team. Communication has been clear and quick for the project to be completed, including drafts for us to feedback on first. I'm sure my team will find the information Farah has supplied will help them best understand and support our swimmers who have hearing impairments in various forms. Thank you Farah!
